Recap: iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max get a smaller Dynamic Island

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are now official, with a smaller Dynamic Island, the new A20 Pro chip and a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture.

The camera upgrade applies to both Pro models, so we’ve removed the earlier suggestion that the Pro Max had an exclusive camera feature. The main difference remains size and battery life, with Apple saying the Pro Max gets the biggest battery-life increase it has delivered on an iPhone.

Both phones also use a new vapour-chamber cooling system and run iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. Storage starts at 256GB and runs up to 2TB.

UK pricing starts at £1,199 for iPhone 18 Pro and £1,299 for iPhone 18 Pro Max. Pre-orders opened on 12 September, with both models arriving in stores on 18 September.

The new Pro phones are available in black, silver, glacier and burgundy.

For us, the variable-aperture camera is the more interesting change than the smaller Dynamic Island. A tidier cut-out is welcome, but extra control over the main camera should make a bigger difference to people actually using the phone.
