MacBook Pro’s biggest redesign in years said to be coming in 2027

Apple’s entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro could get a much bigger update than the usual chip swap in 2027.

According to reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on an M7 version of the 14-inch MacBook Pro for the first half of 2027. The machine is expected to adopt a new design similar to the higher-end OLED touchscreen MacBook that has also been widely reported.

That could mean a thinner chassis and a cleaner display design than the current model. Reports around the higher-end machine have pointed to OLED, touch support and a smaller camera cut-out, but those features should not automatically be assumed for the cheaper M7 model until Apple actually announces it.

Before that, Apple is reportedly planning an M6 update to the current 14-inch design later in 2026. Bloomberg has also reported that Apple may skip M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, making the M6 generation unusually short before the move to M7.

None of this has been confirmed by Apple, and launch timing can move. The sensible buying advice is still the boring kind: if you need a MacBook Pro now, buy for what it does today rather than waiting indefinitely for a rumoured redesign.
