MacBook Neo 2: what’s rumoured for Apple’s budget Mac in 2027

MacBook Neo only arrived in March, but there are already reports about what Apple could change for the second generation.

The most consistent rumour is an A19 Pro chip replacing the current A18 Pro, accompanied by 12GB of unified memory instead of 8GB. If that happens, the memory upgrade may be the more useful change. The current Neo is the only Mac in Apple’s line-up that starts with 8GB, and another 4GB would give everyday apps and on-device AI a bit more breathing room.

A new selection of colours has also been rumoured. The current £599 MacBook Neo comes in silver, blush, citrus and indigo, although there is no firm word yet on which finishes Apple might keep or replace.

One feature that now looks unlikely is a touchscreen. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has poured cold water on the idea of touch coming to the Neo in the near future, despite wider speculation around touchscreen Macs.

The important bit is that none of this is official. Apple has not announced MacBook Neo 2, and a possible 2027 launch leaves plenty of time for specifications and timing to change.

If you already own a Neo, there is little here that should make you regret buying it. For anyone considering one now, the current model remains a £599 Mac with an A18 Pro chip, 8GB of memory and up to 16 hours of quoted video-streaming battery life.
