Apple seeds macOS 27 Golden Gate release candidate ahead of 14 September launch

Apple has moved macOS 27 Golden Gate into its final pre-release stage ahead of the public launch on 14 September.

Developers can now prepare apps using Xcode 27 Release Candidate and the latest SDKs. For ordinary Mac users, there is little reason to install pre-release software just to get the update a few days early; the public version is close enough that waiting is the safer option.

Golden Gate’s main addition is Siri AI, alongside the next generation of Apple Intelligence features and changes across search, design and performance.

The important thing to check before upgrading is compatibility. macOS 27 is for Apple-silicon Macs, so Intel Mac owners will remain on macOS 26.

Apple has also announced changes to support for older Intel-built applications. If you rely on older Mac software, check that the developer offers a current Apple-silicon or Universal version before future system upgrades.
