Recap: iPhone Duo brings Apple’s first foldable to market

Apple has finally entered the foldable-phone market with iPhone Duo, a £1,999 model built around a 7.6-inch folding inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen.

It is powered by the same A20 Pro chip used in the iPhone 18 Pro range, but the design is the real story. Apple says the Duo is its thinnest iPhone when open, while the titanium frame and hinge are designed to keep the phone rigid enough for everyday use.

Apple has also managed an IP68 rating for splash, water and dust resistance — unusual for a folding phone — although that is still not an excuse to treat a £2,000 handset carelessly.

Battery life depends on which display you use. Apple rates it for up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer screen and up to 31 hours on the inner display.

The Duo starts at £1,999 for 256GB, with 512GB, 1TB and 2TB versions also available. UK pre-orders open on 16 October, with availability from 23 October. Colours are star white and night sky.

The price will make it a niche purchase, but this is easily Apple’s most interesting iPhone launch in years. The bigger question is whether the folding format offers enough in day-to-day use to justify the cost and extra complexity.
